This email from Social Security is not a scam

Social Security recipients are frequent scam targets, but an email sent to a large group of beneficiaries is legitimate, the agency says.

The email notifies users of important changes to their accounts. It was sent to customers who created online accounts before Sept. 18, 2021. Those users had logins with “my Social Security” and need to transition to updated credentials with Login.gov.

  1. The Meddlers simply can't leave things that work alone...like fuel cans and toilets and dishwashers and washing machines and the military and firearms and free speech and healthcare and ...[other examples of anything not nailed down].

  2. The two-factor authorization isn't bad, or hard to get used to

  3. The problem is now the scammers will copy the official email with a link to their scam site directing the user to enter their personal information and possibly a credit card number

    1. Yep facial recognition is a requirement. Working on signing up now. Place your face in the oval. The login suspended, they will contact me

  5. The login.gov site is messed up. Where ssa.gov allowed you to use a username login.gov uses your email addy only. If you were using one addy for 2 accounts login.gov gets confused and now my wife and my accounts are all firetrucked up. The wait on the phone is an hour but they will call you back if you want to wait for their call. Of course since I'm retired and just sit around and read you fellas' websites I guess it don't matter. P.S. I am commenting anonymously because Google login doesn't let me switch accounts in order to comment. It defaults to my church business account which I don't want to use to comment here. The world is aggravating me today.

    1. This is the same government that built the Obamacare website. Remember how great that rollout worked?

  6. I got an email about three weeks ago from Social Security which looked “iffy” so I went to the site and dug around a little. It’s legit.

I’m reluctant to accept anything at face value from the government.

    2. I did the same. I did not click on the link in the email, I went direct to what I had saved. NEVER click on a link sent!!

  7. I had to do that crap a couple years ago when I retired. It's a real bitch to set up for some reason. There's gonna be an awful lot of unhappy people.

    1. Show me in the article where it says anything about facial recognition.

  9. I think that the facial recognition is an optional, extra secure scheme. I saw an example of setting up the login.gov access and, when the facial recognition option appeared, the demo guy said just choose the no additional optional security and blow right by it. I have had to do the facial recognition thing a couple of times on reported credit card fraud and it is a pin in the ass. And if it fails (bad lighting, head movement too fast or too slow), then you are forced to wait ten days while a pass code is generated and sent to you, wait for it, by the post office and snail mail.

    1. I did the login.gov thing (after calling SS to make sure it was on the up and up), but I never saw anything about facial recognition. Not that it would help, my computer camera's been taped over for I don't know how long.
