Senator Mike Lee has introduced a resolution in the Senate asking the media to stop naming mass shooters voluntarily.
Most mass shooters have one thing in common. They want to be infamous and have their names and faces plastered all over TV and in the papers. It is the contagion effect. Through multiple interviews with mass shooters and through studying the manifestos of these killers, we have learned the vast majority of them carried out their heinous crimes to become famous.
Coincidentally, they also just happen as a group to be mostly minority or trans.
ReplyDeleteAnd Democrats. And on psychotropic drugs. And...
DeleteThe profile is so well defined that even an ingrate like me can spell it out. So why can't law enforcement find them before they kill innocents. Oh, yeah. "Well, they were on our radar." Time for new radar, morons. That excuse is getting long in the tooth.
We don't need to know the name of the killer. I think mass shooters who weren't "terminated" at the scene of the shooting should be executed on live TV or streaming within a week of the incident by using a 12-gauge firing a 00-Buck placed next to the individual’s ear. They want notoriety so give it to them.
ReplyDelete1. Does the public have a right to know who the shooters are? If not, go for it Mr. Lee! If they do, proceed to question 2.
ReplyDelete2. If the public (or other entity) has a right to know, then do they also not have the right to express that information in their speech?
I have never been a fan of Mike Lee. Although he does advocate for conservative/ Republican agenda/ ideals sometimes, he is not consistent. Many times, his agenda seems to be that of an elitist rather than a staunch defender of the Constitution.
If one truly believes in free speech (Constitution) then you have to take the bad with the good.
This country did not have these problems before the Marxists (including feminists) infiltrated every institution and other aspects of our culture. Anyone seriously interested in tackling this issue should start there.
The amount stolen in bank robberies isn’t publicized.
DeleteI have no problem removing the “celebrity” status from mass killers. To satisfy the “right to know” news outlets can say the name only ONCE. The victims names should be remembered, not the scumbag.
Mike Lee has been a RINO. Maybe only lately he's making a play to be taken seriously. This resolution is for the birds. Coming from Lee, it seems like grandstanding.
DeleteYears ago it was noticed that if a suicide was reported in your local paper that there would soon be more. Papers quit reporting suicides as suicides, and just say "died unexpectedly" or something similar. Obituaries as well.
ReplyDeleteWorked for smoking.
DeleteIMO, the public has a right to know - the perpetrator chose this route - any publicity from those choices is solely on them!
ReplyDeleteDamned either way
ReplyDeletePeople's rights vs not making violent murderers famous in their own lifetime..
No way to make everyone happy with this issue, not to mention it would work against the FBI and their " on our radar " bullshit.
JD
People don't have any rights. You have been clear on this a number of times.
Delete---Prolly need several more new laws--
ReplyDeleteMass shootings these days ARE not about the victims, it is about HOW CAN WE BLAME REPUBLICANS AND 2A
ReplyDeleteIf it is voluntary to not name the perpetrator, then it isn't a 1st amendment issue. I have thought for years that the majority of mass shooters have wanted the infamy of having a high body count. Unfortunately the news organization get three things from naming the shooter. 1) Money from the tragic news story. 2) They can beat the drum for more gun control. 3) Inspire the next suicidal looser maniac. (the FBI did a study of these people, 68% had "suicidal ideation"). Bonus points (more publicity) for the next shooter if they use an AR-15.
