Your Wednesday Morning Florida Report

A Florida man allegedly threw a 3-year-old chihuahua named Raven from a third-story balcony following an argument with the dog’s owner.

Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded around 6:45 a.m. Sunday to Blue Pearl Animal Hospital in Fort Myers when a dog owner had a verbal altercation with a veterinarian at the facility while dropping off Raven. The dog had an open fracture to her left front leg, abrasions to her chest and a broken jaw. The owner told staff that he got into an altercation with an “unknown male” who proceeded to throw the dog off the balcony “like a football,” a probable cause arrest affidavit said.

  2. "unknown male" will sadly remain unknown, as he was thoroughly beaten, dragged deep into the woods, and staked out naked for the wild hogs' dinner.

  3. Throw the fucker from a helo at 8,000 with a 7920 foot long rope tied around his neck. That'll give him a little time to think about what got him into this situation

  4. I have unexpectedly made friends with my neighbors 3 chihuahua's and now I get why people like them so much. Big personalities for such small dogs. Sounds like Florida Man needs to be thrown out a window.

    1. Personality and character is about all these little canines have to offer. We got our first one when our neighbour told us some animal like a guinea pig had run into the long grass on the seaward side of our hill. We found the little guy....a young frightened Chihuahua, almost fully grown, with a crushed trachea, retained testicle and one of his googly eyes askew. We adopted him immediately and named him David, for some reason. The vet was able to fix his problems and he was indeed a royal animal. Some months after his arrival we found an old newspaper notice seeking a lost Chihuahua named George, dated around the time of David's entrance into our household. Our David had a great fear of young girls, and we suspected he had been the misused toy of some young female. He had no fear of anyone or anything else.

Our GSD deferred to his authority but they were also firm friends. We procured a mate for him, and the little couple accompanied us to Europe when Dad got the terminal C. The little pack of hounds were especially tender and loving to Dad as he fought his last rearguard action.

I hate it when people disparage these tiny dogs or treat them as lesser dogs or un-dogs; they are dogs and deserve a little extra compassion for being such plucky and loyal creatures. Mistreat one, or any animal, in my circle of notice and influence and deeply regret it. I hate the expression "treated like an animal" when someone describes a human being beastly....it would be more accurate to say "treated like an abuser of creatures".

  5. granted that the owner might be a total asshole. doesn't mean you have to hurt his dog.
I have very little mercy in me for those that do hurt dogs or cats.
and anytime I came across a "bad dog" it was always the fault of the owner for making them so. not the dog.

    1. To be fair, it is not always the current owner.
I received Sam when he was 7 months. He had run away and my friend tried unsuccessfully to find it's human.

Good thing because it became obvious that Sam had been beaten. He and me became good buds. But every now and then he'd get skittish and would lash out, usually taking a nip of my hand or backside.

None of the obedience training, including professionals, cured him of that.

  7. I have a little Chihuahua dachshund mix. My sister calls her the big dog in a little dog body. She's quiet and calm, like a big dog, but only weighs about 10 pounds. She barks when she wants something, and only a couple of barks when someone comes to the door. Just enough to let us know that we have company, and comes to the person to get petted.
