Traffic has gotten way worse in Nashville and other cities, report finds

You’re not imagining it. Traffic congestion worsened last year in just about every American city studied by navigation and GPS company TomTom.

Residents of 90 large and mid-sized cities, from Tampa, Florida, to Portland, Oregon, were stuck in traffic more often and for longer in 2024 than they were the year prior.

I don't miss my commute one bit. My morning drive in was about 45 minutes because my starting time was early enough that I missed most of the morning traffic, but my drive home could be anywhere from an hour to 'should I just find a fucking motel for the night' long depending on if there was an accident or dead possum on the side of the road. The slightest little thing would cause a monster backup in traffic.

  1. I'm sure forcing everyone back into the office because....reasons....has nothing to do with the increased traffic. s/c

    2. No lie, a dead possum on the side of the road does cause traffic snarls. Maddeningly, this defies logic. It is the cube dweller, i. e. office drone who freezes aghast behind the wheel.
By their fruits ye shall know them.

  2. Some of the leftist states are populated with people that think everyone should commute on a bike to save the planet, so instead of increasing road capacity they build bike lanes. Plus govt wants more people because nothing is good in America so much as big, we all want more of everything. (1/2 lb burgers?) Plus, after years of work from home some employers are demanding their employees show up in the workplace more often. So there's ever increasing demand for road space without any corresponding effort to add road capacity.

    1. Charlotte was mandated by federal standards to install bike lanes within 1/4 mile (or more) of its light rail line stations. On some roads that reduced 4 lane roads to 2 lanes.

  3. I like my commute. Walk out of the house and down to the shop a hundred yards away. Used to be I'd walk out of the house and to the farrowing barn fifty yards away but with all the hogs gone and me mostly retired the shop is much more attractive and smells a hell of lot better.

  4. From Nashville to Murfreesboro can be done in 40-45 before 3 pm after that and without an accident, you can expect an hour five to an hour ten. Today a wreck got me home after one hour and 50 minutes of driving idiocy.

  5. Get all the illegal aliens off the road and the congestion will go down along with our insurance premiums (or maybe they won't go up as quick).

    Cheers

  6. And it's going to get worse as more and more people are forced into apartments because they can't afford and will never own a home thanks to the government.

  7. Calll me crazy, but I moved out of Fort Myers, FL. This time of year everyone from up North is in the area, which encompasses Cape Coral to Naples. Its a sh*t show on the roads. 105 year old women driving 25 in a 55, in the left lane. I moved to the country... And I'm not telling anyone where I am!
