Gov. Newsom requests $39 billion in federal aid from Congress following Los Angeles area wildfires

Gov. Gavin Newsom on Friday penned a letter to Congress, outlining how California would use billions in federal aid for Los Angeles area wildfire disaster relief.

The governor requested more than $39.6 billion to "directly support" communities in both immediate and long-term recovery.

  1. I think that the Federal government would be wise to skip the California government and set up a system where individual home & business owners deal directly with the Federal government. We all know that if the money is given to California, less than 50% will find it's way to the afflicted and the rest will go to corruption.

    3. Better off, no government involvement. I remember stories from Hurricane Harvey in Houston. The victim filled out forms for a low interest interest loan to repair their home. After six months, they got approved for a $6,000 loan to replace a $20,000 roof. If they went straight to the bank and got the loan, they would have been back in their own house in a month or so, (assuming they could get a roofer).

  7. If California didn't support illegal aliens, they would have the money to take care of business. But California administration is full of crooks. Fuck California.

  8. No Federal dollars should to to ANY entity that refuses to enforce federal law. Therefore, ZERO dollars to the state of California, ZERO dollars to LA County, LA City, California Courts, etc.

  9. Sure, as soon as they pay back all the federal money they wasted on high speed rail. With interest.

    1. The amount that Gavie is asking for fire recovery is more than ten times the amount that FedGuv has already wasted on the Go-Fast Choo-Choo.

Then there are the billions of unemployment dollars that CA still owes FedGuv, money the state got scammed out of because of sheer incompetence and stupidity.

California is nothing but a financial pig that Newsom can't put enough lipstick on.

  13. Seems like we should take care of them in the order they occurred. So West NC is first. Oh, and no spending on illegals, or we cut all federal funding. While we’re at it, we’ll administer it, not you, because, well, we don’t trust you at all. Sound good?

  15. But I was reliably informed they were running a large budget surplus just a little while ago.....

  16. Having toiled at FEMA in the HMGP program (Clinton welfare program) per the Stanford Act, CA has to demonstrate that it can’t foot the bill. I don’t see anything in that piss ass letter to that matter. So, you’re telling me, a Kommiefornia resident, that the 9th largest gdp in the world is broke? Mother fuckers need to hang, in a loving, nurturing manner. Of course. Legio XIX

  19. Sell the 9+ million dollar mansion you just bought; use those funds. I'm sure it will be enough if you efficiently spread it around.
