Thanks amigo...i had to put brutus down yesterday, and this, coming out of nowhere is a heart lifter. made me feel alot better about myself after having to do something i really didnt wanna do.
Hang in there. My Brutus passed in my arms years ago. Best Mastiff I ever had. Last dog that was truly mine. My wife has taken "first place" with all the rest. Can't wait to meet him again. WiscoDave
still hurts that I had to put my Slim down. but it was better than to watch him suffer. if I make it there, I hope my dogs are there waiting for me. dave in pa.
take care of him. my old dog jack last 17 and a half years. yeah he was blind the last 1.5 years or so. but knew his way around the house and yard. when it got to the point where he was falling down. we made that last trip to the vet. my eyes get wet as I type this. Jack was a damn good dog. great with the kids, unreal hunting dog. he jumped up rabbits like none other. but you had to share with him. the rabbits I mean. last time in the fields with Jack I was just trying out a shotgun I had just bought used. jack was 14 or so and getting a bit slow. once he saw the gun, he was jumping and ready to hunt. so, we walked the fields together one last time. didn't have a shells for the gun and didn't have a permit either. but he jumped up 3 rabbits after 2 other dogs worked the same field. had a uncle that wanted to keep him too, until my Dad told him I would shoot his ass if he tried. Jack was a great dog. I used to cook up ground beef for him the last year of his life as his teeth where going. so, take good care of your old buddy. it will hurt like hell when he gone. dave in pa.
At 71 I've lost three, the most recent in March. That one has been particularly hard as it happened without warning while we were out of the country. Like BoJangles dog, she just up and died. No chance to say goodbye. A five year old Pyrenees mix brightens our days now, but hasn't managed to take the last one's place.
If I may offer up some advice from somebody that's lost several dogs, sir: Don't look at the new(er) dog as a replacement. It's not fair to the dog and it's especially not fair to you. You can't get comfort when you're trying to compare them. I made that mistake with that asshole dog Jack when CharlieGodammit died. Poor Jack just couldn't measure up. Once I accepted the fact a few years ago that he's not Charlie and never will be, he settled right on in and began to measure up. Now he's one of the best dogs I've ever had.
While I cant really convince myself there is a hereafter, I hope there is a place for our dogs and cats. Old bobby's sitting next to mamma in the kitchen hoping for some spillage, he's 12 and not that healthy. I hope we don't have to let him go soon. I'm still not over having to put Teddy down last November 12, that was a memorable birthday.

That is a very wise insight, Sir.
Thinking of Bootmaker and Brutus, and all the other sadly missed friends.
The dogs we love certainly go to heaven. If they did not, how could it *be* heaven?
