I was at this concert. I don't remember shit about it for some weird reason, but I attended every Dead show in Northern California from the mid 1980s until Jerry Garcia's death in 1995. Well, except for their New Years Eve shows they put on every year. There was no way in hell I was going to a Dead show during a high enforcement period, eat a bunch of mushrooms and get fucked up out of my mind, then try to drive the 90 miles home on a lava road praying I don't get stopped at a CHP checkpoint. I don't know why, but it never occured to me to go to the show and not get fucked up.

ReplyDeleteIt's funny, they actually got banned from Richmond, VA in the 80s because of they were still finding attendees half out of their mind two days later. We found one, out cold, wearing nothing but a single high top Converse in the back of a company delivery van that weekend.
ReplyDeleteI liked your comment that you don't remember it, lol. I still have my ticket stub from Watkins Glen, 73, and I know I was there. But that's all I remember! I must have had a good time.
ReplyDelete" I don't know why, but it never occured to me to go to the show and not get fucked up."
ReplyDeleteWell,no one in their right mind would attend a dead show sober!
I went 3 times, the reason why is Lori/Lori/Julie,the garbage I put with for women!
I wonder what would have happened if all the deadheads stopped taking drugs at the concerts and really listened to what was being played. My guess is the Dead's popularity would have waned.
ReplyDeleteI don't do drugs any more and I listen to the Dead now just as much as I did back then. If you listened to something besides their commercial crap they play on the air, you'd understand.

ReplyDeleteAll part of the concert experience, brother.

Backwards, isn't it? Get fucked up, then go to the show (to make "it" hits in time).

I'd start partying before I left Riverbank City of Action so my motor would be running when I got there.
