Party hearty, gentlemen

A foreign driver with an unbelievably high blood alcohol content (BAC), one that would routinely kill most people, decided to drive his car at an unbelievable 220 kilometers per hour (137 miles per hour) on the German autobahn. His passenger had an even higher blood alcohol content.

  1. I always thought being ass dragging drunk was a requirement in Germany. Also the number per mile is a strange way to measure alcohol content in the blood system..

  2. 4.16 per mille is equivalent to a BAC of .416....or more than 5 times the legal limit in most states. However....having spent decades working ER I have seen such higher levels....some in excess of .6 BAC.

  3. The U.S. hospital supporting the UN in Yugoslavia treated Ukrainian and Russian troops with those levels of BAC. Difficult to anesthetize.

    1. Hard core chronic alcoholics can run up outrageously high BA levels before passing out, no less dying from acute intoxication.

  4. My father blew a .32 after his 'accident' where a telephone pole jumped into the middle of the sidewalk. While he was very well into his bar tab, he was professional enough of a drinker to know to never trust a handheld meter, and always ask for a blood test. He hired a lawyer, fought it, calibration was well out of date on the handheld and they never did an actual blood test. He 'won' and the insurance company wrote a $32K check for the truck repairs. The cop didn't much like our family at that point, stopping all of our family members multiple times, and me nearly every time I came home on leave. Guy finally took a shotgun round to the chest when he transferred to Arizona. I shed zero tears.

  6. When I live in Germany in the 60's 228 K was as fast as my 6 cyl Mercedes would go. I would regularly be passed by Porsche's, bigger Mercedes and the occasional BMW.

  7. Only 220? And drunk?
Many years ago, when I was young and stupid I once drove 220 in rain and only 30 meters away from the car in front of me. And I was sober.
And another time I drove 240 - again sober. I overtook another car. And I saw a tiny speck in the rearview mirror, looked at the speedometer, looked again in the rearviewmirror and the tiny speck had turned into a Mercedes 500 (at least or higher) having to break nearly full force because I was driving too slow.
After I ended overtaking the third car and went into the right lane myself the Mercedes took off and all it took a glance at the speedometer and looking up again and the other Mercedes was a tiny speck again - in front of me.
