Los Angeles County doing their best to bankrupt more businesses

Hundreds of grocery store workers in unincorporated Los Angeles County will receive $5 an hour in hazard pay on top of their regular wages as part of the county’s “hero pay” mandate that goes into effect Friday and lasts 120 days.

The L.A. County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 Tuesday to mandate the pay bump for publicly traded grocery store or retail drug companies, or companies that have at least 300 employees nationwide and more than 10 employees per store site. The measure applies only to unincorporated areas, benefiting about 2,500 hourly grocery store workers.

  1. There will be closings of grocery stores or retail drug companies, and companies that have at least 300 employees nationwide and more than 10 employees per store site in LA county. Things are going to get very expensive in the surrounding counties and impossible to find in LA county.

There is a lot of stupid out there.

    1. As a business opportunity. If i owned any of these stores that qualify, id incorporate individual llcs for each grocery store. Transfer ownership, change the names. Make each a "boutique" store and jack up the price of goods by 20% at each of them. Then id boost the pay of my best employees for putting up with this horseshit with some of the new profit margins.

  4. I predict a mass exodus of such retailers. Soon vast regions of LA County will be "retail deserts" where NO PRODUCTS will be locally available. Wouldn't surprise me a bit if these
"mandates" were deliberately designed to drive retailers out of business. Then Uncle Sugar
would be "forced" to step in and take over....thus increasing the sheeples reliance on them.

  6. They will reap what they sow.
The problem for us is their inability to connect cause and effect aren't bounded by reality.
They string together fantastic sounding BS ideas like systemic racism and global warming to excuse the reality that it was their own stupidity and short sightedness, that created the bad situation for them.
So rather than accept fault, they make it someone elses problem, and continue along living their life of bliss without consequences.
OUR job, since the media won't is to not allow these delusions to persist. Pop that fucking bubble with a pin prick of reality, and hold that cold firehose of truth in their face until they wake the fuck up, or they're going to sink the whole damned ship. And then YOU will be the one denying reality, pretending it wasn't your fault this was allowed to happen.
    See how that works?

  7. How does a council mandate effect what a private company pays its employees?. Who do they think they are, what my employer pays me is between me and them as long as its above the minimum, and below the maximum.
This is an overreach unless they are providing the bounty they require.

    1. and by your logic, with I agree with, do they or anyone else have to tell you what the minimum is?
