Commentary: America Might Be Heading for a Systems Collapse

In modern times, as in ancient Rome, several nations have suffered a “systems collapse.” The term describes the sudden inability of once prosperous populations to continue with what had ensured the good life as they knew it.

Abruptly, the population cannot buy, or even find, once plentiful necessities. They feel their streets are unsafe. Laws go unenforced or are enforced inequitably. Everyday things stop working. The government turns from reliable to capricious if not hostile.

  1. I'm always reminded of the Pogo cartoon..."We've met the enemy and he is us."

  4. America has been in a downward spiral for over 50 years, it's speeding up because we are getting to the middle of the spin and the suction has been increasing rapidly

  5. What pisses me off the most is that these are our own people destroying this fuckin country. Parasites have been feeding off us for decades and we're almost bled dry

  6. Slowly at first, then all at once. We've been gathering more and more steam, while running downhill, over the last thirty years. Around the next bend is when we jump the tracks.

  7. For a 275 year old guy, Alexander Fraser Tytler was spot on!

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence: From bondage to spiritual faith; From spiritual faith to great courage; From courage to liberty; From liberty to abundance; From abundance to selfishness; From selfishness to apathy; From apathy to dependence; From dependence back into bondage.”

The enemy is "us" or "your fellow American" only when convenient for his propaganda purposes. Otherwise he's proud to say that he is NOT one of us. As to parasites, the mostly stupid ones at the bottom of society can be compensated for.

It's the malignant parasites at the top of the economic pyramid who have truly destroyed this nation: What exactly do hedge funders (for example) contribute to society? That's a serious question, BTW. Maybe I just don't understand their crucial role. From my knuckledraggin perspective they at best skim profits and at worst destroy and outsource to offshore shitholes.

  9. I have been practicing. I go through old articles on how the older folk survived the depression.
I bought several kerosene oil lamps and extra wicking. Not only do they provide light, but heat as well. I bought wool pants, wool flannels and natural fiber clothing and Have learned some basic stitching to mend the clothes. I bought material to make candles and I always rinse out cans (coffee, beans, and the sort) to have as secondary pots for heating food or water. I am not as prepared as I would like to be, but I am learning and practicing. I hope to help my immediate neighbors when the time comes... It won't take much for anything to break loose. I pray for everyone to find safe passage. We are the resistance.

  10. You've got a good start. Be sure to buy garden seed and then learn how to can.

    1. Start getting canning supplies soon. I'm guessing there will be a run on them.

    2. Keep an eye out for yard and estate sales. We've found most of our canning jars at these. The one thing that really needs stocking up on is lids as new ones are needed when canning. I"m sure there must be a way around that too but I don't know it.

    3. Anony, because of the shortage and expense of canning lids, my wife tried used canning lids on salsa(if it didn't seal ,we'd refrigerate it). There were no failures. Don't have any idea how many reuses they might be good for.
