Illinois: Cook County Moving Forward With Guaranteed Income Program

Because, you know, Cook County, home to Chicago, has a ton of money to throw around and no other problems.

Cook County residents can apply for The Promise Guaranteed Income {ilot program which offers $500 a month for two years. They will pick applicants by random for the 3,250 spots.

That’s a total of $42 million, which is the largest guaranteed income program in the country.

  1. Is there some slight possibility that we possibly may have an election coming up?

  2. So it takes three million to administer this mess? Doing the math the money distributed only comes to 39 million. Someone is making good money for two years of issuing payments.

  5. it adds up to six grand a year .Not enough to live on , but probably enough for a couple days worth of crack . I'd like the chance to keep 500.00 of my hard earned tax dollars each month .Most of the cash will get sucked up by greedy do nothings .

  6. Do you need an ID to apply for proof of living in cook county and review of your taxes for income verification. Because I thought the democrats said the poor were too stupid to get an ID to vote.

  7. HAHAHAHAHAHA!
    1. $500/mo. Will not do anything to support anyone in Cook Co. I guess that's to support panhandling, pickpockets and minor thievery?
    2. Someone check my math: 3250(people)x$500x12mox2yr = 39 million.
So, uh, why the extra 3? Grease for bloated politicians?
    3. They *still* can buy soda and cookies with EBT cards, right? I mean, what better population control is there beyond encouraging them to eat poison?

  13. In Australia the perpetually unemployed get that (ish) (before rent) every 14 days, but like George Castanza, you gotta work real hard to stay perpetually unemployed. apply for 10 positions a week, attend the "job club" as demanded, be ready to answer the phone at 4.59pm Friday.. to make sure you are "ready if needed", don't answer that phone in time, cut off for the week. and then there is "work for the dole" where republican donator corporations apply for "free workers" and you are required to attend their workplace for, like 10 hours a week, "free labour", (you have already been paid by the government, you're not going to get TWO wages). Going to be curious now we have had a regime change (after 12 years of stealing from the public purse the republicans have been outed), now the democrats are in, they usually dump the "free workers for republican donator corporations requirements", the incoming democrats are going to set up an independent crime and corruption inquiry into the last 3 administrations. fun times ahead everyone, fun times ahead
