Commentary: Martha’s Vineyard Meltdown Shows Liberal Hypocrisy on Illegal Immigration

Martha’s Vineyard has been all over the news.

The tony resort community so loves aiding and comforting the undocumented immigrants who were flown in from Florida that it hugged them—for barely 48 hours.

Oddly, the Left became unhinged when red-state governors—whose states the last two years were flooded with some 3 million illegal aliens—finally decided to spread welcoming chores among affluent blue-state communities.

It was a natural fit.

  4. The actual, factual, legal description is illegal aliens. Cowards cannot bring themselves to say that, prefering instead subservience to the politically correct.

    1. I thought the correct description was deportable alien.

  5. Albeit unwittingly, the fine citizens of Massholia showed the nation exactly the response to illegals.

  6. What's ironic is that these Venezuelan "illegal immigrants" were actually refugees seeking asylum in the US and were likely to be granted asylum. So either they weren't 'illegal' enough to please the hypocrites on the Vineyard, or the hypocrites didn't want anyone not them on the island.

Knowing a number of actual Islanders (and being an honorary Islander - I even have the declaration from one of the towns on the Vineyard saying so) it seems it's mostly the 'summerfolk' and 'retirees' from off-island making most of the fuss about this, not the Islanders themselves.

    Then again, that's nothing new.

  7. While I appreciate the message that DeSantis & Abbott are sending to the blue cities/states, I'm also concerned that there'll be an increase in crime and also that the Libs will seize this golden opportunity to issue I.D./ drivers licenses to the illegals, then register them to vote democrat in future elections.
    "Oopsie!"

  8. I read that the vinyard couldn't keep them because they didn't have the facilities to care for them........think about that.

    1. That was the claim, used as an excuse to get them off the island. But it wasn't the reality.

  9. My wife and I spent a week on Martha's Vineyard this past June. It was on her bucket list, and in celebration of our 30th anniversary, which was the beginning of this month.
I was not impressed at all. Of course, I am a country boy at heart, growing up in a village of less than 1,000 people, who cared about each other, and also each other's business, if you know what I mean.
But I lived there for half of my 62 years, and lived much of it in the country, where I could piss out the back door.
The Vineyard, as some people there call it, loves tourists. I take that back, they love tourists money, the tourists, they could all go straight to hell, for all the residents care.
My wife, on the other hand, enjoyed the trip, and was glad we went. Myself, I liked seeing the forests along the way, including the mountains and valleys, and the rivers and streams. You see, in my state of Michigan, we don't have many mountains, but the rivers and streams are so clear, you can see the bottom.
My youngest son lives in Ashland, Kentucky, and I am trying to get my wife to drive there next month. My 2 granddaughter live there, and I hardly ever see them. I have a grandson who lives close here in Michigan, and I see him a lot more, but still not enough.
I am at the age now where I am going to do the things that I want to do, before I am not able to do anything.
On a side note, if anyone is in the market for a very inexpensive 1911, I have seen that Kentucky gun co. has an SDS import, which is a Tisas made gun, on sale, just a plain 5" gun, for 319$ and I think free shipping. I saw it on gun.deals, but it should be easy to find. The cheapest other place I saw it was for 349$, so for an entry level 1911, not a bad deal. I also am seeing AR 15's again entry level, for less than 400$.
Of course, you can't expect to shoot that AR for 5,000 rounds a month, and have it hold up, but for the average person who wants a home defense rifle, and will at least shoot enough to remain competent, say a couple hundred rounds a month, it is likely a good investment, until you decide to either move up, or replace parts with higher quality, like better trigger group, BCG, etc.
Good luck, if you do buy one of these guns. I had a Tisas in the Commander length, but I sold it to buy a Ruger 22/45.
