New Mexico approves funds for prosecutions in 'Rust' movie shooting

SANTA FE, N.M. - New Mexico has granted funds to pay for possible prosecutions connected to last year's fatal film-set shooting of a cinematographer by actor Alec Baldwin, the Santa Fe New Mexican reported Thursday.

*

"One of the possible defendants is well known movie actor Alec Baldwin," she stated.

Aaaaand here comes a comment from Aesop explaining why gun safety, common sense and the law doesn't apply to Alec Baldwin because of 'industry standards'.
It does appear though that the State of New Mexico sees things a little differently.

  1. It sounds like they may charge Baldwin with mishandling a firearm. WHY would you have to approve special funds to prosecute for a capital crime?

    1. I doubt a legislative body needs to approve funds to prosecute each and every crime, otherwise they would be pretty busy debating who they could afford to charge. So why this one? Big name, Big money?

  2. Why is this case taking so long? There is ample evidence and he has a paper thin defense that he didn't know the weapon was loaded (which isn't a defense given the weapons inspections requirement.).

  3. The "Generals" comment might take a while because he's preoccupied with more important matters 🙄

  4. A non famous person would have been tried and been sent to the big house by now. The state is afraid of this case and is trying to ignore the evidence.

    1. Yessir, if it were me or you, we'd have already been tried, convicted and serving our sentence.

    2. Baldwin has already called in the favors. He's a big DNC benefactor, and the conversations have already been had at the appropriate (high) levels within the New Mexico State government. It looks as if somebody at a more -ahem- local level has raised an objection to this and is willing to pursue it at the cost of personal privilege. Watch for the corrective action.

  5. Not a fan. This was a tragic accident. He will get off. The blame and the crime lay in just who put live rounds in a stage prop gun and who left them there. Baldwin didn't do that. One of the 'little people' did that thing. That is who needs to go to jail for life. Callous disregard for life. It was a sociopath or psychopath that did that.

    1. No. The person holding the gun is the one responsible for it, movie standards be damned.

    2. And then there's the fact that he said he didn't pull the trigger.

    3. When Baldwin picked up that gun without having it checked by the armorer it became his responsibility.

    4. It does not matter in the least whether mistakes were made, safety protocols were not followed of if there was even malicious intent prior to Baldwyn handling the weapon. The final, deciding mistake was made by him and that's all there is to it. To find fault with anyone who had anything to do with the weapon prior to the fatal shot being fired without also finding fault with Baldwyn for firing it is absolute bullcookies.
And anyone who understands how hammer fired revolvers function knows that his nonsense statement about not touching the trigger is just a lie he made up in an attempt to deflect blame because in his utter ignorance he thought that sounded like something that could happen. It can't and it didn't.

    5. Agreed. But finding fault with "anyone who had anything to do with the weapon prior to the fatal shot" will important for the inevitable civil lawsuit(s).

  6. Remember some of the old westerns with John Wayne and Jimmie Stewart and other actors of that bygone era? Ever see any of those old timers in those movies ever pick up a firearm that wasn't under their direct control without checking to see if a round was in the chamber or not?

I think the reason for approving the special funds is the DA probably anticipating having to deal with a furry of frivolous motions and delays by Baldwin's defense team. They may also be anticipating having to employ some high powered attorneys to advise them on law research and precedence. Without those aids in their prosecution of this case, Baldwin's team will make them look like fools.

The defense's first move will be a hearing to have the case dismissed due to lack of evidence of wrongdoing and intent. Failing that they'll move for a either a change of venue or motion to dismiss because of the notoriety of the case or the defendant's own personal notoriety as a well known hot head, they'll argue he won't be able to get a fair trial from an impartial jury.

To bad Judge Roy Bean isn't still around. With the way Baldwin has been playing the victim throughout this debacle, Bean would justifiably have him swinging.

I'm surprised Baldwin hasn't claimed self defense.

  7. There was a gif a while back of Clint Eastwood, on 90th birthday being handed a revolver to spin in his hand. First thing he did was open the gate and make sure it wasn't loaded. Baldwin is an entitled ass who thinks other people are supposed to do it all for him and not hold any blame

  8. Naw, Alex Baldwin will get off with a slap on the wrist. The investigation is being slow walked to allow politics and favors to be called in. The politics here in the Chile Republic of New Mexico are deep blue Democrat, and they protect their own. Someone is just trying to call a little attention to themselves with this prosecutorial move, and it won't go anywhere.

On the other hand, if you were a red blooded, patriotic American trying to defend the public order during the BLM and Antifa riots two years ago, our local Soros funded DA will immediately throw the book at you, J6 style.

  9. Until Alec Baldwin is behind bars for an extended period after a felony conviction the argument that we have a two tiered system of "justice" is valid.

  10. Aesop is correct. All of yall's chest-thumping about what shit-hot firearms handlers you are and how Baldwin "should have" handled the pistol are irrelevant. Firearms handling is strictly controlled in a certain way on movie sets, and that's all there fucking is to it.

As for Baldwin denying he pulled the trigger, he's a lying sack of shit. He *did* pull it, held it back, thumbed the hammer back and held it there while the framing of the (film) shot was being discussed, pointed it toward the camera as he was to do in the shot, and let the hammer fall. He said so himself in the first excuse-making interview he gave after it happened.

So he's guilty of no less than manslaughter, all y'all's self-aggrandizing bullshit notwithstanding.

    1. Oh, horseshit. Please don't ever come around me with a gun in your hand.

And apparently firearms handling is NOT strictly controlled in a certain way on movie sets as you and Aesob claim, or else the woman would be alive today despite Baldwin's best efforts.
