"Am I going to make it when I be pumping gas?”

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Metro Nashville Police Department saw an overwhelming number of guns taken from cars in 2022. So far, 2023 is off to a very similar start.

After losing her son to gun violence, Clemmie Greenlee said she’s disturbed to learn about the number of guns being stolen out of Nashville cars.

when I be pumping gas..... Jesus. Have these people never learned proper grammar?

Hey, I know when I'm writing mine isn't any better, especially when I'm writing a story about my past, but I need to write the way I talk because I want it to seem like I'm telling you the story instead of you reading it. It's intentional, trust me.
But you can be double damned sure that if I was on the news, my English teachers would be proud of me. There's no way in hell would I talk in a manner that would embarrass me, my friends or my family because I sounded like fucking knuckledragger that never made it past 3rd grade.

  1. There is a misunderstanding here.
It is not that they lack any understanding of grammar, they just need to sound like true lefty believers: Idiots. If they would use proper language they'd be excluded from their party of inclusiveness.

  2. There is an Ebonics course at your local community college. Maybe if we met them half way.

    Naw, fuck that!

  3. I am an avowed and unabashed Grammar Noughtsee. Of course, if I ever mess up my own grammar and am called on it, the caller has, almost universally, used poor grammar in my rebuke.

No, they haven't and it's intentional. Learning proper grammar is "acting white" as they used to say.

  5. As I type some of my posts, I swear I can hear my High School English Comp teacher weeping quietly.

But the whole story is a diversion from the basic question of "Why are there so many guns left in cars? Because of all those stupid "No Guns" signs and the criminal offense of being on the wrong side of them with a handgun!

  6. I too, have the ability to speak at different levels of grammar. I can go from street slang to university speak to Ebonics, on a dime. I spent a lot of time on he 'streets' back in 60s and 70s ... I attended university briefly in the 70s then dropped out as I saw no useful skills or abilities being taught there outside STEM.

Some universities did eventually bring in remedial courses on grammar since half the (high school grad) students were illiterate ... not just street slang, but outright illiteracy. Public schools are nothing be an expensive baby-sitting service for working parents .. and many who don't bother to work.

  9. Grammar is important to all of us who value our independence. These "things" have never had time to learn correct grammar and its usage as they have been far too busy with the indoctrination program that is called education. Correct grammar cannot compete with wobbling their fat asses on tik tok. Priorities I tell ya!

I can speak enough Spanglish to get me in trouble in TJ.
And my computer has an embedded grammar nazi that checks my spelling and punctuation etc.

  12. "But you can be double damned sure that if I was on the news, my English teachers would be proud of me." Should be "were," not "was." I was never an English teacher, but I am a Grammar Nazi.

  13. I don't know why it is. When I was 6-8, there was 1, yep 1, black kid that i knew. If anything, he spoke engish with better than I did because apparently, I got to go to the speech van (imagine a UPS truck with a dozen desks and audio equipment used to help the inarticulate articulate) three days a week because I was a mushmouth. It wasn't until 5 years later and a move 3 states south that I encountered black verb conjucation: I be; you be; he be; we be; they be... I never understood how you could do that to a verb, and 40 years later....nothing has changed...

  16. Wirecutter, you're right. I'm about sick to death of "ghetto-speak" being accepted into the culture. And can somebody please advise all the Amish it's "asked" not "axed".

    1. It was always fun working through what the hell the ghetto trash was trying to say when I worked in south Phoenix as an armed guard. If I had a buck for the number of times I heard "I gonna axe you again" or (my personal favorite) "oh lawd! He done been shot! Sumboddee cal the amber lamps!" I would never have to work again.

    1. Thanks! When I was in high school, my English teacher punished me by making me write a thousand word essay on the subject of my choice. I wrote about taking a Baptist preacher's daughter to the Lynyrd Skynyrd concert. She was laughing so hard she was crying and gave me extra credit - for a punishment assignment!

    2. Too bad that essay didn't get preserved.
