Time Out

It's that time of the year again. I'll be taking my usual Christmas vacation from the blog and will return no later than the 6th of January. Yes, I realize that I took a week off just last month when my mother died (it's been a month already?) but given the circumstances it didn't do much to help me relax and forget about the bullshit for a while.

Thank you for your patience and understanding and I wish all of you a Merry Christmas.

California businesses are now shouldering the state's federal unemployment debt with higher payroll taxes

Businesses across California are now paying more on their payroll taxes to the federal government because of spending decisions the state's legislature and governor made within the last couple of years.

The state failed to repay on time its $20 billion loan from the federal government that helped with California's unemployment costs during the pandemic. The state forced businesses to close during COVID-19, leaving many jobless and in need of unemployment pay. State officials have said California ended up paying more than $200 billion in benefits, more than $32 billion of which was the subject of fraud.

Dem Predicts Massive Backlash After Party Leaders Exposed for ‘Lying’ About Biden Health

Democratic strategist Julie Roginsky said Thursday night that the Democratic Party could face a “tea party” movement after the Biden administration concealed the truth about President Joe Biden’s health.

A Wall Street Journal article published Thursday revealed White House aides “insulated” Biden, even from Cabinet members, from the first year of his presidency. Roginsky said that the “lying” about Biden’s health would have consequences for Democrats.

The CR That Wasn't

Interesting few days in congress and actually a good class on government corruption. The ugly sausage-making of the system is completely exposed by these shenanigans. Trying to back the people into a corner, the resident GOP/POS Speaker Mike Johnson attempted to dump a 1,547 page “continuing resolution” (CR) which should contain a few lines of text stating simply that current funding will be extended for a specific period of time. Instead it included a pay raise for Congress, funding of a key part of the government censorship of the people and a defense for the January 6 committee from investigation.

The leadership of the House: Johnson, Scalise, et al praised it as a tough but fair bill. It wasn’t, it was pork. It wasn’t even particularly good for the GOP. Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy and other conservative bloggers and influencers rose up against it. This is the key point, this was the people rebelling against a horrible omnibus bill disguised as a CR, not the dictates of Musk, Ramaswamy or Trump.

2024 In Review. Enjoy It Warm Or Over Ice.

Every year, I try to do a “year in review” post, so, here it is! What struck me this year is that so very much happened that was entirely unprecedented in the history of our country, and that’s not a good thing. So, I thought I’d at least try to make it amusing.

Commentary: With Trump’s Win, a Concerted Censorship Effort Will Intensify

As was proven during the 2024 election cycle, we are well beyond the scope of mere bias in the legacy media. Given the shrinking audience influence coupled with massively declining income from severe loss of cable subscriptions and advertising revenue, American media outlets have chosen a different course: straight-up propaganda intended for consumption by a niche audience, half of which don’t know they’re being lied to and the other half not caring.

Broadcasting has been replaced with “wish casting.” How else can we explain the completely lopsided coverage from the alphabet news outlets, which provided Kamala Harris with “78 percent positive coverage, while these same networks have pummeled former President Donald Trump with 85 percent negative coverage?” And it was even more biased on CNN and MSNBC.

Your Tuesday Morning Florida Report

A state appeals court Tuesday said a man can face a charge of carrying a concealed weapon by a convicted felon after police discovered he was carrying a machete at an Orlando Walmart.

A three-judge panel of the 6th District Court of Appeal overturned an Orange County circuit judge’s ruling that dismissed the charge against Melvin Leon Ivory. Circuit Judge Kevin Weiss ruled in December 2023 that prosecutors couldn’t establish a case of carrying a concealed weapon by a convicted felon because the machete “was not being used or carried in a dangerous or threatening manner.”

Everything You Wanted to Know About .44 Magnum

.44 Magnum might not be the "most powerful handgun in the world" anymore, but it's still one of the cartridges we get the most questions about. So we're gonna answer some of them. Honoring General AP Hill

On this day, 2 years ago (December 13th, 2022), I exhumed the remains of my ancestor, Lieutenant General Ambrose Powell Hill in  Richmond, VA. When the city workers got down to the 3 large "cap stones" above his grave I stepped in. The first cap stone was removed by crane and I saw A.P. Hill's remains. The casket was completely deteriorated. So I asked the city workers to get me a tarp so I could cover his remains. Because the news vultures were trying to get photos. I also asked the workers to park their vehicles behind me which was where the news media was standing with their cameras, drooling for photos of his remains. I also had to make threats to get a man to stop flying a drone who also wanted pictures.

Federal Data: School Leaders Say 40 Percent of Students Are Behind Grade Level

According to a federal survey of school leaders, 40% of students in the nation’s public schools were behind grade level in one or more subjects at the beginning of the school year.

The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) announced its findings this week that the percentage of students school leaders estimated to be behind where they should be was down 7% from the 2022-23 school year but still 8% higher than before the pandemic.

The Democrat Trump-Musk Feud Strategy

It has been a triumphant phase for the MAGA movement. President Trump won a landslide electoral victory last month. The bogus cases against him, which were part of the establishment's attempts to outlaw political opposition, appear to be winding down. Trump had a triumphant return to the global stage during the reopening of the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. He effectively won a case against vicious slander by ABC News and George Stephanopoulos which compelled the outlet to initiate a settlement payment of $15 million. Gorgeous George himself had to pony up $1 million. Trump won Time magazine's Person of the Year, which meant a lot to him and his supporters. Trump secured a $100 billion investment from the Japan-based SoftBank Group Corp which will create 100,000 U.S. jobs, doubtlessly encouraging other investors.

'We're going to stop woke ... woke is bulls**t.'

Too Little, Too Late, By Biden on Iran

President Biden pulled punches when enforcing oil sanctions against Iran. Forsaking the leverage inherited from President Trump’s “maximum pressure,” Biden opted for “maximum deference” from the get-go, and with clearly disastrous results.

Not only is there no deal in place today constraining Iran’s nuclear program, but Tehran’s theocrats have used oil export revenues – an estimated at $144 billion of which was earned during Biden’s first three years – to underwrite the cycle violence currently engulfing the Middle East.

Biden gives life in prison to 37 of 40 federal death row inmates so Trump can't have them executed

President Joe Biden announced on Monday that he is commuting the sentences of 37 of the 40 people on federal death row, converting their punishments to life imprisonment just weeks before President-elect Donald Trump, an outspoken proponent of expanding capital punishment, takes office.

The move spares the lives of people convicted in killings, including the slayings of police and military officers, people on federal land and those involved in deadly bank robberies or drug deals, as well as the killings of guards or prisoners in federal facilities.
