How Effective is Pistol Ammo at 100 Yards?

It's time for another edition of Stuff John and Chris Wanna Know! This time, we're looking at what pistol ammo does at 100 yards. Calibers tested were 9mm, .40 S&W, .45 ACP, and .357 Sig. We compared bullet velocity at the muzzle and 100 yards and also fired some rounds into ballistic gelatin. The results were a bit unexpected (especially for .357 Sig...).

Commentary: What’s Next in the Liberal Lockdown Playbook?

Count me among the Pollyannas who was sure that when the election was done the pandemic would be “done,” too. November 4 would dawn bright and clear, the thunderheads of contagion looming on the horizon dissipated by a dry air mass of political reality.

And I was not alone. None other than President Trump was with me, as were pols and pundits across the conservative landscape who speculated that the draconian restrictions on liberty were as much a political tactic employed by the Left as they were a public prophylactic against viral pestilence.

Police Evict Antifa Who Bum-Rushed Motel In Tacoma, Wash.

According to authorities in Tacoma, Washington, homeless Antifa members have been removed from a local motel that was swarmed the night before. Tacoma Police said on Wednesday, they have evicted Antifa groups who occupied rooms at the Travelodge motel for five nights and refused to pay.

These idiots are still around?

The FBI is now investigating what the police are calling an “intentional attack” on the gas service lines in and around Aspen, Colorado.

According to ABC, coordinated attacks involved three separate Black Hills Energy gas line sites, one in Aspen and two elsewhere in Pitkin County on Saturday. According to Assistant Police Chief Bill Linn, the saboteurs had some knowledge to understand what they were doing, they “tampered with the flow lines. They turned off the gas lines.”

Despite that threat to thousands of people, this has gotten very little attention from national media. A quick search reveals no coverage from CNN and MSNBC. While ABC News covered it on their site, it didn’t even make it to their air the day it happened on ABC’s World News Tonight, according to MRC. Apparently, leftist terrorism against the infrastructure doesn’t grab those networks.

Portland cops are already retiring in record numbers, but now cops are fleeing mid-career to go to places for lower pay and a fiscal hit to their retirement accounts. The Democrats’ embrace of the antifa and BLM defund-the-police stance is working—leaving Portlanders even more defenseless against rioters, looters, arsonists, squatters, and terrorists. In essence, the exodus is “a win by those that would want the police to be defunded,” according to the Portland Police Bureau’s human resources officer.

The list of GOP lawmakers planning to object to the Electoral College’s vote count is continuing to grow. The newest editions are South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan and Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley.

Duncan said in a statement he plans to object because he swore an oath to protect the legality and integrity of the elections. He pointed to the numerous claims of voting fraud and irregularities, including changes to voting systems that allegedly violate the state Constitution.

On top of the aforementioned COVID-related pitfalls, the Sunshine State also had to deal with the ever-troublesome Florida man, an unusual amount of alligators and some things that are just too bizarre to try to fit into a neat little list.

As we prepare to head into hopefully what will be a better and brighter 2021, we’re taking a look back at some of the strangest things that happened in Florida this year.

What's the Maximum Effective Range of 12 Gauge Buckshot?

Shotguns are typically considered close-range firearms, especially when loaded with buckshot. Beyond about 30 to 50 yards, the spread from most shotguns becomes too unpredictable to reliably guarantee that any of the pellets will hit the intended target.

But what if circumstances dictated that you had to take that shot anyway? How effective is buckshot at extended ranges? We got out the ballistic gelatin and did some testing at 25, 50, and 100 yards to find out.

Commentary: Donald Trump is The Essential Man

Once upon a time, there was a president called Ronald Reagan – a model of decency and probity, at once great and self-effacing, who, above all, was truly in love with America and saw it as his sacred mission to preserve and strengthen American freedom. During his eight-year tenure, he revitalized the U.S. economy, snapped us out of what his disastrous predecessor had referred to as “our malaise,” and helped bring down the Soviet Union.

Then he walked off into the sunset. And for the next seven presidential terms, we had to make do with mediocrity and self-dealing. Both parties were dominated by crime families – sorry, I mean political dynasties. The Bushes were uninspiring. The Clintons were pure slime.

What. The. Fuck.

So by now, most of you are aware of the big red screen warning of malware or some such shit when you open the page to this site. So far it seems like it's only happening on PC and not mobile devices although I may be wrong, but I can open the site on my kindle without getting the warning.
Some PC browsers display the warning, others don't.

I found out about it last night when a reader alerted me to it and I spent a good 2 hours trying to figure it out. About the only thing I found out is that it may be caused by software I installed. Only thing is, I haven't installed any software and I don't think I even have the ability to even if I wanted to.

Apparently somebody either reported me, google has a glitch in their system, or they're flagging me for conservative content.
Either of the scenarios seems likely because Peter sent me a couple links showing where Vox had the same problem about a week ago.

I did the same thing Vox did and submitted a request for a review - they reviewed his site, found nothing wrong, and removed the warning. His was done in a day or two, but the form I submitted says it may take up to a couple weeks.

I did a virus/malware scan on my laptop and it came up clean.
I open all links that I post and I haven't gotten any type of warning from my anti-virus saying that I shouldn't have done that.
I get all of my links from reputable sites and I haven't visited any unusual ones in I don't know how long, not even midget amputee porn sites.
I have made ZERO changes to my blog that may have triggered this.

I've got to take Lisa in for another doctor's appointment in a little while but when I return this afternoon, I'll continue to poke around to see if there's something I may have overlooked to fix this.

New York City Approving Barely 10% Of New Gun Permits

Nervous residents of New York City (at least those who haven’t already fled the area) have been signing up in increasing numbers for firearms permits, many for the first time in their lives. Given the conditions on the ground there, that’s understandable. But making the decision to take advantage of your Second Amendment rights and actually laying your hands on a firearm legally are two very different things in the Big Apple these days. The New York Post is reporting that there’s a significant backlog in permit applications this season, and among those that do manage to get processed, nearly nine in ten are denied. The NYPD’s License Division hasn’t had too much to say about it, but local gun dealers suspect that this isn’t entirely accidental, while a variety of factors have led to the surge in demand.

Commentary: The Federalist Papers and ‘The Violence of Faction’

It has been said that the oldest word in American politics is “new.” Even the United States Constitution, by far the oldest written constitution in the world, was once new, and had to be defended against charges that it was an unnecessary and unrepublican innovation. The Federalist was keenly aware of the novelty of the Constitution’s enterprise—the attempt to establish “good government from reflection and choice”—but boldly turned it to account.

Ma Deuce: The Venerable Browning M2 .50 Caliber HMG

The M2 Browning machine gun was first conceived in 1918, as a request by General John Pershing of the AEF for a large-caliber antiaircraft and antitank machine gun. John Browning scaled his M1917 water-cooled .30 caliber design up to .50 caliber, and the first prototypes were test fired in November of 1918. Impetus behind the project faltered after the Armistice, but Colt continued to develop the gun during the 1920s and 1930s. It was first adopted in 1922 by the US Coastal Artillery as an antiaircraft gun, but significant manufacture would not come until World War Two. By this time, the gun's main role had shifted, from antitank to being an aircraft armament, and some 2 million were made during World War Two, primarily as aircraft guns.

The M2 remains in service today, highlighting the brilliance and longevity of John Browning's designs.

The Nashville explosion and my horrible ordeal

I've gotten quite a few emails these past few days asking if we were okay - it didn't help that it happened during a period when I said I was going to take a few days off, so folks that aren't familiar with my location really didn't know, especially that first day when there was no real word on fatalities and injuries.

I slept in Christmas, finally dragging my ass out of bed about 7, made some coffee and sat down at the computer to read the news. My homepage is my email and the first thing I saw was 3-4 messages from old friends asking if that was me in Nashville this morning. Huh?
Well, it was too fucking early for me to be interacting with people so I went to the news and saw the headline of "Massive Bomb Set Off in Nashville" or some such shit and my first thought was "Who in the fuck would want to blow up Nashville?" which was immediately followed by "Who wouldn't?" which was then followed by "I bet they'll pin this on the white guys."

We weren't really affected. Well, we were but it was actually in a positive manner - while we can make outgoing calls, we haven't been able to and still can't get any incoming calls which is positively glorious as far as I'm concerned - our phone hasn't rang since Christmas Eve. Not even once.
Our internet has been a little spotty. It's been up and down, but more up than down. When it does go down, it's only for a couple minutes at a time. At the worst, it's been a minor inconvenience. Unless I'm watching a video or switching sites, I don't even really notice.
My in-laws on the other hand..... their cable, internet, landline and cell phone is all through ATT, so it's been down since that shit happened.

Because my in-laws are elderly, we've been concerned about them not having any way to call out, especially if there was an emergency so I had a brilliant idea - I'll loan them my truck phone.
Now anybody that knows me knows I'm not a phone person. I can honestly say without exaggeration that in the past year, I've spent less than 5 hours talking on any kind of phone. I didn't even own a cell phone for years until the truck started breaking down and Lisa got on my ass to get one so we wouldn't get stranded. To placate her, I went to Walmart and got a flip phone and about every 45 days or so I buy 30 bucks worth of minutes through Straight Talk which is good for a month. Like I said, I'm not a phone person so I think in the 6 months I've had it, I've made one call on it. Matter of fact, only 3 people have my number - Lisa, Woody, and his wife.

Anyways..... I figured I'd load the phone with minutes and drive it out to Portland where my in-laws are so they'd have a way to call for help if they needed it. I figured if ATT and/or the internet in town was down I wouldn't be able to pay with a card so I grabbed some money from the cash stash I keep in the safe for such a situation and headed to Walmart - the day after Christmas.
The place was fucking packed, but I wasn't going to stand in line, I was going to the electronics department for the card and pay for it there. Unfortunately, the system to load the card was down. So much for that plan.
I went back today (Sunday) and tried again. They were able to load the card, so I bought one and then headed back home to get online and load the minutes into the phone. I did that, then tried to call the cell from the home phone to make sure it worked before I made the 80 mile round trip to my in-law's place. Remember, we can make calls from the landline, just not receive them. Guess what..... it didn't work. I was redirected to customer service (Press 1 for English) which informed me that I was fucked.
Oh well, I tried. I really did.

So yeah, I'm not going to post much on the bombing if I can help it. There's nothing you can read here that you can't find anywhere else and besides, I'm already tired of all the conspiracy theories and rumors that are everywhere, so I'm just going to sit back and laugh at all the phone addicted people that have been going through some serious withdrawals.

And Lisa just now got a message from her mother saying their internet and land line was back up, but it's like ours - they can call out but can't receive calls which really isn't much help at all if the entire fucking region is like that. Seriously, what are they going to do if there's a medical emergency, call their daughter in California?
